It’s a new year and that means it’s time to rundown the best and worst products I’ve tried in 2017. I already have a separate blog post of the best of 2017 and it is linked below. But since I bought lots of new green beauty products for my blog and YouTube channel last year, you can imagine that I also found quite a few products that were big disappointments too. So today you’ll hear all about them on this list. Here’s the worst of green beauty in 2017.

Worst of 2017
I can definitely say that I wouldn’t repurchase any of these items again and truly the worst of 2017. I don’t try to hate products on purpose and I try to really be patient and see how the product works. But the green beauty products on this list have really proven themselves to be the worst and I can clearly explain to you why they don’t work for me. So let’s see what made the list.
Zabana Essentials Dry Glow Shampoo Shimmery
I wanted to really like the Zabana Essentials Dry Glow Shampoo in Shimmery because it was first clean beauty dry shampoo. However, I had such a bad experience with this. It is definitely not for brunettes because the powder is white and doesn’t completely dissolve in your hair. The shimmer in this dry shampoo looks like more dandruff than glitter on my dark brown hair. It somewhat works as a dry shampoo but the fact that it makes it looks like I have a bad case of dandruff is something I can’t ignore.
Modern Minerals Lip Crème Tint
When I first received this in my Petit Vour box, I thought perhaps it was a toy. It looks like a children’s lip balm and even smells like one too. I am not a fan of using my fingers to apply lip balm but I still gave it a try. After a few days , I realized that it also wasn’t nice on the lips and felt a little too oily. The balm never seemed absorb into my lips and just sat on top of it. I don’t like their color selection and overall this was a big disappointment.
Sister Botanicals The Nurturer Face Oil
I was so excited to try this out in my Satva Box, but after trying it out for a few days I noticed it broke me out. I love the ingredients in this but I really don’t think it’s for my skin. It feel heavy of oils on my skin (which normally I don’t hate) and it smelled heavily of olive oil which I don’t like. I gave it a try for a week but had to get rid of my week 1 vial. I don’t think this oil is worth trying again for me.
Physician’s Formula Organic Wear BB Mascara
Seeing the Physician’s Formula Organic Wear BB Mascara might come as a big surprise to a few of you, but let me explain. In 2017 I was using strictly this mascara until I got my Mineral Fusion one. Promptly after that, all the faults of this BB mascara became clear as day. It looks fine when you first apply it onto your lashes but then the smudging begins. It just goes everywhere in such a short amount of time. I definitely won’t be picking it up again because I’d rather go without mascara than use this again.
Zabana Essentials Glow Stick Golden Goddess
This Zabana Essentials Dry Glow Stick in Golden Goddess had so much potential. I really love gold highlights and I am never against extra moisture. However, when using it, the shimmer never seemed concentrated enough. Honestly, it was most like an oil stick than a glow stick. I didn’t use it for a few months and wanted to try it again at the end of the year but it became a tacky, sticky consistency. It reminds me of a glue stick. So definitely not picking this up again in the future.
Alaffia Everyday Shea Lavender Shampoo & Conditioner
Looking for hair troubles? You can find them with this Alaffia Everyday Shea Lavender Shampoo & Conditioner. I bought these in hopes of finding a shampoo and conditioner that help bring back to life my dull, greasy, tangled hair. If I thought my hair was bad before, it only got worse once I tried this duo for a week. It never felt like the shampoo cleaned my hair no matter how much I used. I love that the ingredients are ethical and free of sulfates, but can’t I get a shampoo that actually works? The conditioner is another sad story. It so poorly conditions my hair and left it a tangled mess after the shower. Needless to say, these two products won’t be seen in my shower again.
Andalou Naturals Sensitive Micellar Facial Swipes
These Andalou Naturals Sensitive Micellar Facial Swipes aren’t actually created for sensitive skin. I had the worst time using them because they wouldn’t stop burning my skin especially around my eyes and mouth. They do clean well as cleansing wipes but the burning sensation is so bad, probably the worst I’ve experience with a cleansing wipe. I think this one needs to go back to the drawing board because something is wrong in the formulation for it to burn so much.
Alba Botanica Fast Fix Zit Zapper
Fast fix? Nope! This Alba Botanica Fast Fix Zit Zapper for pimples is the last thing you want to reach for when you are dealing with a pimple or zit. It’s just a complete gimmick and waste of your time. As a zit cream, it doesn’t work no matter how many days you use it. I actually think it clogged my pores even more. It says that it’s tinted and can help conceal your zit but, first of all, you can’t wear it under makeup. No concealer can adhere to it. Second, you can’t wear it alone because it’s basically transparent and not a concealer at all. Third, the only shade available only works for the palest of skins. Can we at least get some attempt at a shade range? Overall, it’s a bad product and Alba Botanica really dropped the ball on this one.
Lafe’s Deodorant Extra Strength in Coriander Oil & Tea Tree
This Extra Strength Deodorant in Coriander Oil & Tea Tree is not my first deodorant from Lafe’s which is why I am so disappointed by the product. First of all, by no means is this deodorant designed to be an extra strength deodorant. I could sweat through this scent in less than an hour, which is not a great thing to admit but it’s true. It also leaves a strange feeling of moisture in my arm pits after applying it. It actually makes me sweat MORE than I normally do. The scent is not strong at all so don’t expect it to mask any BO whatsoever. I don’t recommend this deodorant for anyone that sweats.
Earth Science Eye Makeup Remover
Another disappointment was the Earth Science Eye Makeup Remover. This product is not very good at removing makeup. It gives the impression that it washes off well because it lathers a little bit but it actually needs to be removed with another product or wet cloth. And what shocks me the most is that it burns when I use it around my eyes to remove makeup. I think it’s better to invest your money in another, more gentle makeup remover.
Triesta Organics Moisturizing Collection
I had such high hopes for the Triesta Organics Moisturizing Collection but I was gravely disappointed. This moisturizing collection comes with a Clarifying Treatment, Moisturizing Shampoo, Moisturizing Conditioner and Blow Dry Styling Gel. The worst product from the kit is definitely the Clarifying Treatment (step 1) because it doesn’t remove any product buildup whatsoever. Instead it feels like it is the giving you a problem of product buildup in your hair. Then the shampoo (step 2) is pretty mediocre and not cleansing enough to remove the clarifying treatment. As for the conditioner (step 3), it’s a light conditioner which I normally like but in conjunction with the other products doesn’t seem to do anything. Finally the styling gel (step 4) doesn’t have the best smell and does a pretty below average job of protecting my ends and styling my hair. My final qualm is that the bottle cap lids of each bottle just slip and slide in your hands when the bottle is wet (like in the shower). I must have dropped these bottles dozens of times when I used them. So I can definitely say that this collection is not worth the hype.
Andalou Naturals Oil Control BB in Un‑Tinted with SPF 30
When I purchased the Andalou Naturals Oil Control Beauty Balm in Un‑Tinted, I expected it to be the perfect moisturizing cream for under my makeup. Boy was I wrong! It’s like a bad sunscreen that sits on the top layer of your skin and won’t absorb. It gave me the worst case of white cast on my skin and especially during the summer when I was more tan. I just think it’s not suited to be a beauty balm for anyone. I really struggled trying to use this until finally, I gave up and just threw it out.
Parissa Wax Strips for Legs & Body
When I first got these Parissa Wax Strips for Legs & Body I thought they weren’t too bad. As far as ingredients go, they are a pretty clean formula, but they are made with a plastic strip. Yes, plastic! I immediately got turned off by the realization that by using them I would be creating so much plastic waste. Then I noticed that I needed to use more strips than I normally use with my other wax strips. So it was pretty much a big NO from then on with these strips. I wouldn’t recommend them and wouldn’t purchase them again. There are better options out there.
Burt’s Bees Deep Cleansing Cream
When I used the Burt’s Bees Deep Cleansing Cream for the first time, I thought I didn’t know how to use cleansing creams. The cream would go all over the place but it didn’t feel like my skin was any cleaner. I tried multiple methods to wash off this cream but it always felt like I had a layer of product on my face. I finally realized that it was this cleansing cream that was the issue. So with more than 80% of the product still left, I threw this cream out. There are better products out there. Just skip this one next time you’re looking to buy a new cleansing cream.

I included two extra products: the W3LL People eyeliner and Fior Minerals concealer in the group photo of worst of 2017 products. I don’t consider them the worst but I don’t necessarily love them. I took these photos very late at night and must’ve overlooked them. Sorry y’all.
