Last year, I realized that I’m in my 20’s and I still suffer from issues with acne and blemishes. I wanted to change this reality so I picked up the Shea Moisture Clear & Balance Problem Skin Facial System. The kit includes a full-size African Black Soap Face & Body Bar, a full-size Problem Skin Facial Wash & Scrub, a full-size Problem Skin Moisturizer & a half-size Problem Skin Facial Mask. After using these products for a few months, I want to share my review of each product in the kit and my overall impression of the facial system. I also included a YouTube review at the bottom of this post!
Ingredients
The entire facial system uses these three main ingredients: African Black Soap, Tamarind extract and Tea Tree oil. If you’re new to natural beauty or wondering what these ingredients do, here’s a quick explanation. African Black Soap is full of anti-oxidants and vitamin A & E. It’s great for a variety of skin issues like acne, ezcema and more. It nourishes your skin and leaves it feeling super clean. Tamarind extract is a natural astringent and it helps exfoliate and brighten your face. It’s also great for getting rid of dark spots. Tea Tree oil is a natural antiseptic and it helps heal blemishes on your skin. This ingredient has antibacterial properties and it’s quite potent on it’s own. All the ingredients are ethically sourced and sustainably produced which is amazing! I hope this helped clear up a few ingredient questions and now onto the products.
Shea Moisture African Black Soap Face & Body Bar
This soap bar was the first product I finished in my kit so I couldn’t take a photo of it for this review. I kept it in the shower, so I definitely used it more for my body. It cleared up most of the reoccurring breakouts on my back and chest. I absolutely loved it and I recommend it to anyone suffering from body acne. It can be a little drying when you use it too frequently, so don’t forget to moisturize. I enjoyed the scent and how it’s so easy to lather and use. Maybe it’s not the most hygienic product for the face, unless you store it in a clean soap dish, but I still loved it the few times I used it. I would definitely purchase this item again.
Shea Moisture Problem Skin Facial Wash & Scrub
This face wash and scrub is a nice creamy, milky face wash with gentle exfoliating beads. I would say this was the least impressive product in the kit. Don’t expect to exfoliate too deeply with this scrub. The ratio of beads to face wash is low, so it isn’t densely packed with exfoliating beads. It cleans my face well but I don’t think it really heals my blemishes or exfoliates my face enough. It smells like the 3 main ingredients and I enjoy the scent. On the bottle it says to use this only a few times a week but I used it daily and it’s not too harsh. However, I wouldn’t pick this up again because there are better face washes out there.
Shea Moisture Problem Skin Moisturizer
This face moisturizer has become one of my favorite products of all time. I didn’t like it at first but the more I used it, the more I loved it. It’s a light cream that finishes matte. It’s not too heavy on the face and it’s the perfect base for makeup. It doesn’t dry my face in the summer but during the winter it can be a little dry. A little goes a long way and you need to blend it into your skin to avoid any white patches. I love that it moisturizes my face without being oily or heavy. It helps fight blemishes even when I want or need to wear makeup. I will definitely purchase this again and pick one up for my boyfriend too.
Shea Moisture Problem Skin Facial Mask
This facial mask is a dark grey mask that’s good for weekly use. The consistency of the mask is very wet which means that it never dries. On the label, it says to use a thin layer for only 5-10 minutes, however that didn’t work for me. The best results came from when I used a thicker layer on problem areas and a thin layer everywhere else for 30 minutes. The mask helps get rid of small blemishes, dark spots and keeps my skin clear. Unfortunately, I like masks that are a bit more intensive and detoxifying, so I might not purchase this again any time soon.
Shea Moisture Facial System
As a whole, I think this kit is definitely worth a try. The price is $19.99 at Target which is almost equivalent to buying 2 products separately. So it’s a better deal to get all 4 products to try and then decide which ones work best for you. I think it’s also an effective system of facial products to clear blemishes and acne. Some products like the face & body bar and facial mask were the best at treating blemishes and others maintained the status quo like the facial wash & scrub. Using it consistently will give the best results and it becomes clear which product works best for you. I was able to see which products I liked the most from the kit to buy on their own. The 3 main natural ingredients are effective and even better in combination with each other. I never heard about tamarind extract before this facial system and now I’m excited to discover more products with the ingredient. Also the fact that Shea Moisture ethically sources and sustainably produces these ingredients is incredible. They are also cruelty-free and have certified organic ingredients. Shea Moisture is setting the new standard for beauty products and I’m a huge fan!
Video Review
In a few months, I was able to see how well the Shea Moisture Clear & Balance Problem Skin Facial System worked for me. It’s clear that it helped me with my reoccurring face and body breakouts. I even discovered new favorite products like the moisturizer and face & body bar. It’s a great deal for anyone looking to give it a try and deal with their acne or blemishes today. I would pick it up at your local Target if you can. Also, if you’ve tried it already, I’d love to hear which products were you’re favorite and which ones were a miss.
‘Til next time!
