Finding the perfect lip balm for me is very difficult. I suffer from chapped lips all year round and the worst is in the winter. I’ve also tried many lip balms in the past, but only a handful ever work. As a green beauty blogger I am careful to only try lip balms that fit my criteria for clean and non-toxic ingredients. So when I was lucky enough to receive a Coco Loco Coconut Oil Lip Balm to try out, I thought why not? After trying this lip balm out for a few months, here’s what I think.
Does it moisturize?
Yes, hands down. It’s rich and hydrating. The combination of oils creates a formula that still feels hydrating even when you worn away the initial layer of application. The lip balm is absorbed pretty quickly into your lips. The only downside to this incredible moisture is that it can sometimes feel a little heavy on the lips. It’s better to apply one or two layers and let it absorb. You can feel a thick layer of balm on your lips when you’ve put too much. So a little definitely goes a long way.
Does it smell/taste good?
Oh yeah! The coconut and vanilla flavors create an intoxicating and comforting scent and taste. It makes me think of cozying up next to a fireplace while drinking hot chocolate.
How clean are the ingredients?
I love reading labels like this! Almost all the ingredients are organic, except for the Vitamin E. It’s a nice blend of oils like sunflower oil, beeswax and coconut oil. Not that it really bothers me, but I do find the following quite funny. It is considered to be a coconut oil lip balm, but the coconut oil is actually the third ingredient on the list. Overall, great ingredient list for a natural, non-toxic beauty enthusiast like myself.
Final Thoughts
I think that I am a fan of this lip balm but it’s not my all-time favorite. It’s incredibly moisturizing for chapped lips in the winter. You really do feel an instant relief and the moisture doesn’t easily wear off. My favorite way to use it is actually as a night lip balm. Similar to a night cream, I love to layer it up before I go to sleep and I wake up with soft and hydrated lips. I do also wear it during the day but never more than one to two layers. Still curious about why the coconut oil is third to the beeswax on the ingredient list.
